Am I eligible to vote?

The elections for the municipal council of Diemen will take place on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The members of the municipal council will be elected by residents of the municipality of Diemen. Do you live in Diemen? Then you can vote for this election. 

The election of members of the municipal council takes place once every four years. The municipal council makes decisions on local policies and represents the residents of Diemen at municipal level.

Who can vote?

You can vote in the municipal council elections in Diemen if you meet these conditions:

  • You are 18 years or older on March 18, 2026.
  • You are registered as a resident of the municipality of Diemen.
  • You have:
    • Dutch nationality, or
    • the nationality of another EU member state, or
    • a non‑EU nationality and you have lived legally in the Netherlands for at least five consecutive years.

Can I vote in the Netherlands as a non-Dutch EU citizen?

EU citizens

Yes, that is possible. If you are a resident of the municipality of Diemen, you may vote in the municipal council elections without losing your right to vote in your country of origin. No additional registration is required.

Non‑EU citizens

If you are not an EU citizen, you may vote in the municipal council elections if you have lived legally in the Netherlands for at least five consecutive years prior to the election date.
